Jennifer Lopez to Perform on American Idol?

Ever since Jennifer Lopez and Steven Tyler had been announced as new American Idol judges, fans have speculated over whether one or both would perform on the show. And executive producer Nigel Lythgoe — saucy Brit that he is — has dropped all kinds of hints to that effect. We had pretty much deciphered from Nigel’s numerous winks and nods that Aerosmith would be performing, but he had not given much info on the possibility of J.Lo taking the stage. But now, in one fell swoop, Nigel has confirmed all his hints about Aerosmith AND confirmed that J.Lo will also perform on American Idol.

Nigel was interviewing with xfinity.com about his other smash hit talent competition show, So You Think You Can Dance! when he dropped the bombshell. Asked about the possibility of Aerosmith and Jennifer playing during the Idol finale, Nigel replied, “It will probably be before that, actually.” When asked if he cared to give more detail, Nigel reverted back to his characteristic coyness, saying, “Actually, no, I told you that. It’s before [the finale].”

So to sum up that short sentence, we have pretty much confirmed that following: A) Aerosmith will play on Idol, B) Jennifer Lopez will also play on Idol, and C) both performances will take place before the Idol finale, when Lady Gaga is scheduled to perform.
